"Stylist, Shanelle Russell, and I had been admiring each other's work for years on the internet. This past Fall, Shanelle reached out to me asking if I wanted to work on an editorial together, I jumped at the opportunity. I told her how I'd been wanting to photograph mothers & daughters together—real people—with real, complex dynamics, but styled for an editorial.
We both gravitated towards this, partially because our relationship with our mothers are complex. I saw other mothers & daughters together and wanted what
they had. I admired it and recognized, even if I couldn't have it, I had other very strong female bonds in my life and in my family.
For this shoot, we found Samantha, a model herself, her mother Eddi and two younger sisters, Alyssa and Julia. I couldn't have asked for better collaborators. Shanelle styled them in some of their personal pieces, and with pieces from her own collection." — Elena Mudd
